Vegan is the thing now.  Which why leather goods are going to disappear (well maybe not shoes, along with steak) just as well as leather jumped from $500.00 to $2,000.00 per garment or item.  Vegan anything are made from the bark of trees to god knows what with a backing of cotton.  So you have check the quality. Plastic is good and terrible as other objects. Also like polyester, vegan leather stays around long after you don't want it to. No wonder we have mountains of trash in our oceans.

Anyone hear of the Telfar Bag?  It was an obscure black owned company till Beyonce dropped the name in a song.  Then kind of expoloded in popularity.  They only make shopping bags in vegan leather.  Some are expensive (inflation)  A medium size one costs $202.00.  The sizes are small medium and large.  All colors.  QVC missed the gravy train when they didn't pick this company

It was never "obscure."  It's been around for quite some time.  The reason it is so popular is because of product placement.  It's been seen in movies.  Another reason for it's popularity is it's limited availability to purchase, which is by design.  Excellent marketing.  It is a Vegan brand with loads of colorways.  Comes in various sizes as totes (shopping bags) and other shapes and sizes that are all sold out.  My son's girlfriend has had one for about two years in black and it is a regular looking faux leather small bag.

Vegan is only a "thing" for people who want those products.  There are many, many leather goods (handbags) and other exotic skins on the market to be purchased.  Faux leather is growing in popularity because many people have developed that lifestyle.  It has nothing to do with the unavailability of real leather though.

I will always purchase real leather or a good coated canvass or nylon.  I will never wear a faux leather bag.
