@ID2 wrote:Oh my goodness ladies, just get rid of using a landline phone! All of these simple problems will be eliminated. I was reluctant to dump my landline phone years ago. I know it was the BEST decisions I've made! I can honestly say that I've NEVER had an unwanted phone call! Never. I just can't understand why you all have such issues with phone calls when theres a very easy solution. Good luck.
I get those calls on my cell phone too.
Also - in times of disaster, sometimes landlines are the the only ones that work. I've lived through blackouts, Hurricane Sandy, and 9/11, and without my landline I would have been completely cut off from contacting anyone. There have been too many times when my landline has been a godsend for me to ever want to get rid of it.
So getting rid of a landline is not necessarily an easy - or smart - solution.

Well, I don't know how long it takes for these bozos to get the message and stop calling, but I turned my answering machine off and stopped answering unknown numbers a few months ago and they are still calling. In fact, I just reported one "company" (because they were listed in a google search) to the BBB, who opened a ticket for me and will contact them.

Before calling the number back. google the area code. That will let you know where the call originated. Never return the call no matter who it is. (I haven't read the entire thread, so excuse me if this has already been posted)

For me, it was almost a year of nonstop calling before the debt collectors and telemarketers finally threw in the towel.
I never answered a single call and even stopped listening to the voicemails every day. Now I get maybe 2 or 3 calls a week. Wouldn't be surprised if they start up again but I still will never, ever respond.

@SaRina Good for you for reporting it. We tried to report the problem to the phone company but they couldn't do anything, told us to contact the FTC.
Like you, I wonder when they'll give up. It’s been going on 1 ½ years. We never pickup either. I finally got a call blocking device which helps but they keep changing numbers. It makes me question the real motives behind this. I know they want to scam people but when they realize no one answers, and a call blocking device has been installed, why do they continue? I don’t understand why they don’t move on. When they realized we got a call blocking device they started changing numbers and doing crazy things to our phone. It’s a form of harassment that I really resent. I check 800 Notes, which is a great site to report scam numbers, and some people say when they pick up the phone the person on the other end laughs.

I never answer the phone and they rarely leave a message. I do notice that the same number will call back 2-3 times in one day. I am on the DNC registry also and it's frustrating to continue to get these calls.

Like out of the blue I've started getting telemarketer calls on my cell phone.. I love the auto-reject.. Don't you just love how the do not call list has worked! LOL

An Update for anyone interested:
I just received an e-mail from the BBB that my issue has been resolved. The company harassing me responded that they will remove my telephone number from their internal call list. (Note: I guess the Do Not Call Registry, which I am registered with, exempts this company because they supposedly represent charitable and political clients. Hmm.)
I think if more people would stop complaining amongst themselves about these types of annoyances (and with bigger issues as well) and take action, more can be accomplished.

@cotton4me, yes they do call cellphones- I love the auto reject list! So much for the do not call list... grrrrrrrrr

I've gotten in more trouble not answering the phone. The latest was a call from the IRS. I hung up on them twice, but they were determined, thank goodness. The IRS only calls you if you initiate the call, so it helps to remember you did that, and the area code might be strange. LOL I'm such a dum-dum, but the person calling figured out what I was doing. It's so annoying that those crank calls have us on edge like that.
