Based on a quick Google search:

 
There are 31.103 grams per ounce of gold.
One pound of gold converted to gram weight equals 453.59 g.
Gold's price today (Aug. 25) is $61.866 per gram, or not quite $2,000 per ounce. 
 
So:
$61.866 per gram * 845 grams = $52,276.77
 
Edited to add:
845 grams / 31.103 grams per ounce=  27.16779731858663 ounces
27.16779731858663 ounces * $1943.92 (current oz price) = $52,812.03

What an exciting find for these teens!  Can only imagine how excited they were.  And who knows what they will learn about these gold coins.

Their value in raw metal is one thing, but I'd be interested in what they're worth as coins. Numismatic value.
