Teacher's tribute tattoo

[ Edited ]

Yeah!

Some positive energy that reinforces not allowing anyone to take away your power.

Math teacher at high school shows his new 'MSD Strong' tattoo as students return to class

  • Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School statistics teacher Frank Krar, 47, got a tattoo on his arm reading 'MSD Strong'
  • Krar showed off the tattoo on Wednesday, as classes resumed at the Parkland, Florida school

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teacher Frank Krar was sporting a new tattoo on his arm reading: 'MSD Strong' when classes returned on Wednesday.

Circling the message are the wings of an eagle - the Parkland, Florida school's mascot.

Krar, who teaches geometry and statistics to students in all four grades, told DailyMail that he was one of a handful of teachers who got tattoos in honor of the students, staff, and school. He says he saw several students sporting new ink when classes resumed on Wednesday as well.

'Everybody loved it. We had a lot of staff and students get tattoos of various types.

Some were more memorial tattoos that actually mentioned the date or some reference to the 17 victims on them. "I wasn't so interested in a memorial tattoo. I was more focused on something that was more about strength and steadfastness and being resolute,' the 47-year-old said.

An artist friend helped Krar come up with the design.

He and two other teachers went to South Seas Tattoo Company in Deerfield Beach, Florida on Friday to get their designs etched into their skin.

The process took hours for Krar, who was there until three in the morning.

When it came time to settle up, shop owner Rob Soli refused to let the teachers pay.

'He wouldn't let us pay. It was really great. It was his way...he wanted to give back in any way and to do us a favor. It felt like a way he could do that. So that was very nice of him and I want to give him a shout out,' Krar said.

Lovely tribute and very nice of the artist to not charge the teachers.

Not a fan of tatts, but if that is what he and others chose to do to honor the victims, I respect their decision.  We must protect our children and not have them sitting ducks in the classroom.  Ban the backpacks. Let them carry their books, etc.  Arm the school with trained law abiding teachers/ police. Schools should not be gun-free zones - this has been proven over and over to be a disaster.

I'm not a fan of tattoos but I definitely support the positivity. Maybe a tee shirt designed with the date and loss of victims, etc. ( graphics company could donate) the tee sales to support the cause some how.

They need to build safe rooms in classrooms and have armed security.  Even well trained police and military personal with extensive training are only about 20 percent accurate and able to respond correctly in any situation.  I don't know where it was because I only saw the tail end of a story about a school that did install safe room closets in all classrooms so it is quite doable.  They also need to install a double entrance system like some high end jewelry stores have with an armed security guard to admit anyone wanting admittance.

I saw something about that 'completely secure' classroom.  It's really a shame and yes it should be #1 priority for every.single.school to completely secure everything, to protect staff and students.  But it won't happen.  $$$$$.  Hate to be so cynical but JMO.

I agree about the back packs.
