I got my first and only tattoo to honor my daughter who passed from cancer, not to be "different".

I have 4 and got none to be different!!!  Got mine to adorn my body - one when I wear shorts, one with meaning to my life and the other 2 were supposed to be part of a large one  from shoulder to shoulder because I hate high necks and wear a lot of racerback and strapless tops but the artist got ill and never was able to have it finished.  I will be getting an armband when tatoo parlors open up - for adornment.  I only wear earrings and don't like to be encumbered with jewelry getting in the way of everything I do so tatts work for me!!
