Speaking of deposit slips .... I don't recall the last time I filled out one of those, either!  lol

@Tinkrbl44  I take a deposit slip on every casino trip.  Why?  Because I do not spend my winnings over a certain amount.  I deposit 50%-75% right into my checking acct on the way back home.  The balance is "house" money. Smiley Tongue

Re: Target to stop taking paper checks

I never had to use a deposit slip. If needed, I just take cash to my credit union, show ID and deposit the money. I didn't know banks used  slips anymore when one can just deposit money with regular ID.

Re: Target to stop taking paper checks

The few times I have actual cash to deposit I just slip it into an ATM, no envelope needed.

Works like a charm!

@Etoile308.  Carrying cash is most unwise.  Take it from someone who has been robbed.  The occasion was a rare time when I was on my way to buy annual auto registrations and had several hundred dollars.   My checkbook was found and returned but a quick phone call put a stop on activity on it, as it would do with a credit or debit card.

Re: Target to stop taking paper checks

Here's another angle ....

A couple years ago, I lent my sister some money.  We live 3,000 miles away from each other.

To speed up the repayment, she went to a local branch of my nationwide bank and was going to deposit it in my checking account.

They wouldn't let her deposit money into my account, even with plenty of ID!

Why?   That's a common way money laundering is done!

Weird, huh?

@Puppy Lips  Do as you want.

If you have the check written out (of course the amount is not known until the end) and have your ID out the wait is minimal. It's only polite.

Re: Target to stop taking paper checks

The only problem with writing a check at the grocery store is when the person doesn't even open their purse or wallet to look for their checkbook until their stuff is already bagged up. Then there's the matter of finding a pen.....then they write as slow as they possibly can while the line is backing up....oblivious. At least have the check out and a pen when you get to the check out!

That's why Debit Cards were invented, plus they're a lot safer than writing a paper check.

@Puppy Lips.  I use a debit card for any purchase where I would in the past have used cash.  It comes right out of my bank account.  I have credit cards but rarely use them.  My debit card has the same protection as a credit card would.

@Kachina624 I know they say that debit cards have the same protection as credit cards, but I find that hard to believe.  If your debit card is stolen, and the thief uses it, the money is taken out of your account.  Not so with a credit card.  Am I wrong?

Overlooking the attitude here, it's better to put the groceries on a credit card that earns cash back, rewards, etc and just pay it off each month.

@Tori3569 That may work for you, but not the way I budget.  And frankly, I write out the checks quickly.  It is the process the Publix clerk does that takes a bit of extra time.
