I doubt it. If an idiot decides to do that after being a clearly warned that checks will not be an acceptable form of payment, then I guess they will just be dinged for a late payment to their credit report and suffer the financial consequences for being stubborn.
@icezeus. So how are they supposed to pay the bill they get in the mail?

@Kachina624 Do you mean their Target credit card bill? That would be the bank that handles that and not Target. Just like Synchrony handles QVC cc payments.
@Caaareful Shopper. I have no idea who processes Target's credit card payments but it's not necessarily a bank.

After the pandemic when my hair salon reopened they specified "Cash Only" and have continued that practice to this day. No checks, debit cards or credit cards. Of course It is an inconvenience but I am not looking for a new salon! This is the only place that I frequent that has this practice.
I write an occasional check but I use credit cards most of the time or have automatic deductions applied to my checking or credit card account. I have had no problems!

I guess it does not matter. Someone posted, that it's only for making purchases within the stores, so I guess the few people that still mail in check payments will be good.

I still will write checks at the grocery store. I don’t want to put food on a credit card. Too bad if it holds up the line. Deal with it.
Overlooking the attitude here, it's better to put the groceries on a credit card that earns cash back, rewards, etc and just pay it off each month.
@Tori3569 @Puppy Lips @mormel20
I'm betting some of these people just do not keep up and have no idea that's even possible.
Last month, I got $14 in rewards for paying my utility bills with my rewards credit card.
If you pay off the CC bill every month, what does it matter if food is put on a credit card?
Could people possibly think that checks are somehow "safer" than credit cards?

More retailers will be doing this.
i haven't used a check in a store in many years.
I don't shop Target.
If I spend more at a store than I have in cash, I use my charge and pay
off every month.

Does QVC still take checks?
I remember some posters saying that they would put an item on check-hold when they weren’t even sure if they wanted to make the purchase. 🫤
I recall that, also. Then, they'd take their time getting around to mailing the check in! Just buying a little time.
Who does that these days? If you really can't make a decision about an item, just PASS ON IT.
To put a purchase on a "check-hold" for something that someone else might REALLY want is ... unethical, IMO.

@Laura14 wrote:I have had to call two customers in the past two months because they didn't fill out their check properly. If you don't know how to write one or which line is which, stop. It's a PITA for us on the receiving end and you have to hope the person is an honest one and makes good after the fact. Bravo Target. Most of the young kids ringing you up these days don't even know what a check should look like so it gets through.
There is no reason for anyone to write a check in a retail line in 2024. Not to mention the PITA of writing out the deposit slip or scanning them all into the bank which doesn't go smoothly due to handwriting so you're double doing and may as well just do a manual slip.
If you survived the pandemic, I guarantee you did it without writing a check and also had an email for home delivery. 2020 was my breaking point in accommodating my fellow GenXers and Boomers who want to cling to paper. Get with it already.
Learning can be scary, but well worth the convenience. Try it. You'll probably like it. Most people in society now can't be that wrong.
Speaking of deposit slips .... I don't recall the last time I filled out one of those, either! lol

@Kachina624 Most, if not all. major retail contracts with a separate bank for their credit cards. For Target it's TD Bank. I just looked online.

I don't understand using a debit card rather than a credit card that rewards you in some fashion. You accrue points, you get rewarded. You pay the credit card balance in full with the same money in the same checking account. Only difference is, rather than have it withdrawn in drips and dribbles with each transaction, it's withdrawn in one lump sum when you pay your balance and you get your credit card's reward.
I also don't understand carrying around a checkbook rather than making a payment with cash. If your purse/checkbook is lost or stolen then you're potentially compromising your entire checking account, rather than just the cash that's in it.
