I have not shopped in Target in several years. Seems like more often than not could not find what I was looking for but ended up buying stuff I didn't need and ended up donating.
I think stores are hurting and this year determines how they will go forward in the future.
I often wonder if you say no will they send someone to find it for you?
The cashiers at the supermarket always ask.
I will try it next time - IF they ask. But with my track record I bet the next time I go there might be around Christmas. And it might be a completely different atmosphere - busy and just getting people through.

Same thing with my Publix- very friendly and they always say hello. And I say hello or good morning back- always.
Personally, I'm thrilled when employees in a store I'm purchasing things at acknowledge my presence. I'm thrilled that there's still at least some friendliness in this world.
Doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I find it refreshing.
We used to have a local grocery store called Genuardi's. And we shopped there often. We got to know the employees and it was wonderful. I used to do all my Mom's grocery shopping. She only ate Brauburn apples, Hawaiian pineapple, fresh rhubarb for example. So the produce manager kept the store well supplied. I could always count on them. And if there was anything else you needed all you had to do was ask. They woud order it for you.
Sadly they went out of business.

1. it's getting close to "the most wonderful time of the year"
2. making eye contact with customers for security reasons.
If I owned a store, I would require my employees to at least make eye contact and smile, maybe say hello to acknowledge that person as well as size them up as a shoplifter.
But that's just me.

I agree. So easy to say 'yes or no thanks'.
Another reason I like Target is no music playing. Every where we go there is music, music, music. You can't escape it except at Target.

There is a grocery store in my area that always plays oldies!! I love it!1 The music is not blaring and I often find myself singing (softly) along with the songs! And I have seen/heard other shoppers do the same!!!

I shop at target very often. My store is clean, organized and the employees have always been helpful.
I'll never complain about a friendly greeting. It costs me nothing to give a friendly "no thanks" if I am asked if I need some assistance.

@ValuSkr wrote:The new initiative probably won't hurt but Target has to do more to avoid the path of its moribund competitors, Macy.s, JCP, and Sears.
IMO from the multiple new clothing and mdse lines Target is now carrying/beginning to roll out, and their aggressive frequent new TV ad campaigns, they seem to be taking the bull by the horns and genuinely giving revamping/remerchandising a go in a far more upbeat and aggressive way than either JCP or Sears, for sure - IMO those two stores just rolled over and said “shoot me” - so props to Target for going for the gusto and not giving up without a fight.
The only thing that really bothers me is the long lines to check out and the slooooow and disinterested, apathetic, bored checkers - but Walmart has the same issue and I would prefer Target over Walmart any day as far as the in-store experience. Walmarts in my area always seem old tired and downright grungy to walk around in - Target, generally nicer and cleaner.

The Target stores in our area have been doing this for years. I like it because it shows they acknowledge customers and are showing a sign of common courtesy. If I dont need help I smile and say "no thank you, just browsing" and move on...............
On the other hand---- in most stores you need help and can't find anyone----- the only ones available are the cashiers and they don't want to be bothered they are too busy checking people out.....Or at one Walmart near me their employees are downright rude and don't want to help.......so I prefer Target's politeness...........

I know that shelves must be stocked, but at Walmart it seems to be an ongoing process, and no one moves if you need to get an item off the shelves . Save the hellos and let me shop. Rant over.
I hate that....and what's worse in the grocery store they do this and the employees stand right their and talk to each other for a long time or they look at their phones for a long time and the shelves dont even get stocked...............
