My husband was in another area and when I found him an employee was helping him find an item. When she could not find it, another staff said tried to locate it by her app.
I don't think this was just a random experience. I think Target is trying to up its game.
Target and Barnes and Noble have terrific customer service. Very pleasant and they will take you to an item if you need help.

Any employee you encounter at a store the size of Target will most likely not know how many other employees you’ve interacted with before them. They are not trying to pester, they are just being polite and trying to help.

since the mind reading ability implant is not available, i have a suggestion.
when entering the customer picks up a hat to wear while shopping. choose red if you want to be undisturbed by employees. choose green if you want to be assisted.

@TheMemphisVette and @TenderMercies perhaps when entering the store a customer who doesn't want to be greeted or acknowledged should make it known to the first associate, then that associate could use their walkie/talkies to contact the others that the customer in the blue floral blouse doesn't want to be bothered today.
Ridiculous isn't it?

I love walking into Target. The floors are shiny clean, the merchandise is lovely to look at, all placed neatly on the shelves. I don't mind anyone asking me if I am finding what I need, what bothers me is not finding anyone if and when I do need help.

Cynical me thinks it's a stop-shoplifting method as well:/

I’ve always wondered if there’s a person sitting in a back room in front of a wall of computer monitors watching these stores from security cameras. Someone recently robbed our local Target by stealing a Dyson vacuum. Apparently two employees tried to stop the thief at the doors and he pulled out a knife and threatened them and got away. Someone had to have been watching him as you wouldn’t be able to fit a Dyson in a bag. He would look like any other customer carrying out a Dyson that had been purchased.

While I know it's what they are required to do, I hate it!! I'm smart enough to know to find an assoiate when I need help and have never had a problem finding someone to help and there is always a cashier. CVS
is so annoying to go to because of this!! I told the manager that and there were 3 people around me who joined in agreed. I go there only when I absolutely have to when I don't have time to go elsewhere! While it may seem rude, I usually just ignore them and go about my business!

@drizzellla wrote:I have not shopped in Costco in ages. So I was surprised when I checked out last week, the person asked me if I found everything OK. Not sure if she was prompted to ask because it was months since I bought anything or were they told to say that to everyone.
I have not shopped in Target in several years. Seems like more often than not could not find what I was looking for but ended up buying stuff I didn't need and ended up donating.
I think stores are hurting and this year determines how they will go forward in the future.
I often wonder if you say no will they send someone to find it for you?
The cashiers at the supermarket always ask.
