At my Target, the employees always say hello or good morning as I walk through the store (I'm there so often they probably think they're greeting a fellow employee, LOL).
Same thing with my Publix- very friendly and they always say hello. And I say hello or good morning back- always.
Personally, I'm thrilled when employees in a store I'm purchasing things at acknowledge my presence. I'm thrilled that there's still at least some friendliness in this world.
Doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I find it refreshing.

No store or company is ever going to get it just right. Proof is in the comments here. Some folks like being spoken to and asked if they need anything, others don't. The employees in store do not know if you encountered another store employee previously so they speak because they are encountering you for the first time. I prefer to be left alone when shopping. If I need you, I will find you. If one store employeee, or several, speak to me while I'm shopping I do repsond and go on with my browsing.

I don't mind being greeted at all. I like to be acknowledged
I. don't need anyone following me around. If I need help, I'll find someone and ask.

I’ve shopped at Target for decades and spend a lot of money there. I have definitely seen their customer service improve since the cc security breach.

All they would need to do is put buttons around the store to push for anyone needing help. An out of town grocery store that I was in several years ago had big red buttons located in every isle to be used for anyone needing help.

I realize they are just doing their job, but it is so annoying. Bed,Bath and Beyond, Bath and Body Works are just a couple that do this. I will just go with the flow on this and hope they eventually will discontinue this.

i think the B&M stores need to do do something to attract people. Around me, the stores are dying. They are so empty during the week. On the other hand, greeting the customers is also recommended in any retail training regarding loss assessment. I worked retail many years ago for a short time & part of my training was always greet each customer at your counter, make eye contact as it discourages against theft.

I agree. So easy to say 'yes or no thanks'.
Another reason I like Target is no music playing. Every where we go there is music, music, music. You can't escape it except at Target.
