You can read more about this story online ....she admits it was all in fun..it's the storytelling of your imagination..

I'd be afraid the bread would come out of the mailbox with little bugs or ants in it. I surely would not eat it. Maybe she was just trying to show how hot it is in Texas.

I saw the news cast. She's trying to inspire imagination and has written a children's book this year.
The bread wasn't literally baked in her mail box, however, she did have to use oven mitts to open the mail box.

Slightly off topic....I am an older person and think that I've been there/done that. Been around the block, not my first rodeo, and all of those sayings when we like to think that we've accumulated wisdom over the years. I am not too stupid, hehehe, and living in a big and often tough city, worked in the city and seen some scary things and dangerous people, so I like to think that in addition to book smarts, I have some street smarts too. Then a little thing reminds me that I am not 'all that'. What kind of silly nonsense is this crazy woman talking about, you may ask? Well, never in my life have I seen that kind of mailbox. A mailbox in what appears to be a cement/brick structure. Maybe they are simply not common in the mid Atlantic region. As they say "live and learn".

@PhilaLady1 I am in Maryland and see the brick around the mailboxes occasionally.
I believe it was popular years ago and now, not so much. Perhaps in other areas of the country they are a "thing."

@Kachina624 wrote:@Mersha I don't believe it. Bread and cake is typically baked at 325-350°. No way does a mailbox get that hot....even in Texas. The dough may firm up a bit but the inside is going to be mushy. It sure wouldn't brown. Methinks Roberta is telling a tall tale.
@Kachina624 Nope. No way. We have had 2 big brick or brick and stone maiboxes like this and no, never had one get too hot to open--even in 111 degree weather for days in the hot hot sun.
That summer it was painful to go out after work and grab the steering wheel and hold on, and one day the rear view mirror melted off the windshield of my new car!

@Sooner I used to drape a towel over the steering wheel so I could drive before the car cooled off. Now I just stay home when its that hot.

@PhilaLady1 I never saw a mailbox like that either. Looks like a mini pizza oven to me. hahaha

@Mersha Betty Crocker move over! One of our local tv weather girls baked cookies in her car recently.
