I also left NYC (in 1970) and went to CA.  Short time in LA area (didn't like it) and then moved up to SF Bay Area.

 

Moved back to NYC in 1989.

@ALRATIBA...I lived in the SFV for forty years, loved it and missed it terribly when I moved to AZ.  Never went back to NY simply because there was no reason to but I was homesick for 2 years after I left, missed the culture of NY.  I guess your roots were very deep to have gone back but if not happy where you live best thing is to move on.
