Why does QVC have One Time Only's when there are still TSVs left?

I find OTOVs tend to pop up when the TSV isn't selling like hot cakes. They used to be rarer and be a better value (the OTOVs). Since the policy changed last year to "lowest price in 12 months" for OTOVs, I've changed from jumping on them to being more cautious.

I think they do it for several reasons.

Sometimes the TSV is selling very slow, or it is an item that doesn't have a big following and they need to stimulate interest in tuning in.

Sometimes the TSV is low in choices, as in lots of colors already gone, so they are offering something to attract sales.

They are looking to get us to tune in more often or check in online more often, so they are creating a kind of 'blue light special' mentality. Some great deal might be just around the corner.

In fact, many OTO's and TSV's only cost a couple of dollars more the next day, and aren't really a big deal.

Or they do it because they can.   It must be a new practice because it's happening a lot lately.

i like having an opportunity to buy something at a reduced price - so i'm all for it, whatever the reason,

I enjoy seeing them pop up occasionally.  However, (and it might be my imagination), it seems like the prices are not at discounted as OTO's used to be.

Rick D talked about this one evening - that they are going to offer OTO more often now. Something new they are trying out.

Re: TSV/One Time Only's

They sometimes do it when the show on air isn't a match with the TSV. For example, if the TSV is a clothing item and the show on air is a food fest, they will promote a food-related OTO. Further, in some cases there are no shows remaining in the day that are appropriate for the TSV, so they have the last airing early in the evening. This is interpreted by some to mean that the TSV has "bombed," but frequently that is not the case at all.

A while back, on another thread, someone mentioned that QVC changed their OTO policy after the Shop NBC channel morphed into the evine channel. The idea was that QVC was mixing the OTOs in to compete with the unscheduled evine doorbusters.

I don't know whether there's any truth to this or not, but the time line sure works.
