Yes, it is true they don't always get that close to the President, but doggone if they dont think of another way.  With the shooting of Kennedy, It was done from a distance, but I believe Gerald Ford was shot was fairly close as was Reagan.  McKinley was shot up close in the abdomen at the Worlds Fair Exposition.

Sadly true, @shoekitty--  evil can sometimes be fiendishly cunning.  At least we know of a number of failed nefarious attempts to get close to Chief Executives in recent decades, for which we can be grateful.
