To each and everyone of you who responded to my thread, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I enjoyed reading every post and learned so much from them.
My daughter looks very seriously at the cost of housing, whether purchasing or renting. As all of you have mentioned, there are many more things to consider. And I do agree 100% with the suggestion of visiting anyplace that has been chosen, prior to moving. It isn't something you do, like jumping in the water and hope you can swim.
Forty years of living in CA prior to moving to AZ made me realize how much I would never again live where it snows. We did visit AZ prior to moving here.
My daughter never lived where it snows, she has no idea what one has to deal with when everything is covered in it. I was raised in Queens, New York and had my share of driving in it, shoveling it, etc.! The only thing I like about snow is looking at it, from a distance, thank you.
So again, a big thank you to all of you, every post was very helpful. ![]()

Although I didn't see this post, I do have to say that I went from New England to CA (32+ years) and back to New England again almost two years ago.
Snow isn't such a big deal when you're either retired or work from home, don't have kids to get off to school, etc.
I also think snow removal is a lot more efficient than it used to be. I've been fine with this change!

@september I live in King Co. in western WA and snow removal can be kind of hit and miss, depending on how prepared each city is. It's better than it was when I moved here in 2010. I moved here from So.Cal. in 2010 and never drive in the snow. I have a great BIL who drives me to the store or medical stuff when it snows. My late DH grew up in Michigan and hated snow! I'm not fond of it either.

@bikerbabe I love it when I see a So. Cal. resident post. We lived in Redondo Beach for years and moved to Torrance when DS was ready for middle school.
When he married he and wife moved back to Redondo. I love the South Bay and miss it every single day. Circumstances necessitated my moving when my DH passed away and am never happier than when I visit! I even miss those palm trees!

I live in SoCA and I hate the heat. I turned down a job in Rancho Mirage because I could not bear the thought of moving to a place that’s even hotter than where I currently live.😂 I’ll gladly take some snow, especially if I was retired and not needing to drive to work in winter.
Same with me, the older I get the more the heat bothers me, I could never live where it's hot and humid 6 months out of the year; can't wait for fall, it's been a very humid August here in PA.

@Love my grandkids ...I lived in the San Fernando Vally, CA for 40 years and loved every minute of it. At one point we agreed we needed a larger house than the one we were living in.
Well, much to our surprise the cost of housing went sky high..that's when my daughter looked at what was available in Arizona. Housing was definitely less expensive so we made a trip to AZ to see what we could get at a price that was more reasonable. So that was the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. I missed CA terribly for a long time, but slowly got used to my new life in AZ.

I love CA. I just don’t like the heat inland. Oof. 😂
I do like that we can get to mountains, beach or desert in less than an hour depending on what direction we drive.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE how you said....Oof! I feel the same way although I live in the east and boy does it get hot but humidity is awful too. I love the fall.

Didn't see this post. But nobody wants to live with snow anymore or cold. Past 20 something years the population of the U.S. has shifted for sun states. Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc. Willing to take on excessive heat instead of cold. There still running from California because it's no longer paradise. It's becoming a state of very poor and very rich, with a shrinking middle class that can't afford basic housing. I still miss it a great deal. You'll never find better weather. And Washington is threatening to become exactly like it.
