I believe it's a mistake to categorize people by what they want or have. Those wanting a secluded local may be involved in nefarious activities.  They may be criminals, their cabin a hideout.

I live in a suburb of a small city. We have a well. That means when electricity goes out we lose the pump that moves the water to flush the toilets. We lose our heat, our landline phones, oven and microwave, TV, internet access...in other words, all the creature comforts that we take for granted. That cabin in the woods sounds very romantic, but no toilets immediately takes away that aura of romance.

I guess if all you ever know is city living or as I would say, living in town that's ok. I can't imagine living where it's crowded and lots of heavy traffic, to me that's not living. I have no need to go on vacation, I live in a nice home in the woods and I feel like I'm on vacation everyday. We are not very social people, we are happy living quietly with our cats and watching all the wildlife go by on our land.

You know what happens to a cute little beach cottage like this - sadly, it gets flooded. That's why there aren't any.

WRONG. There are many beach cottages where I live and in surrounding beach towns. They don't get flooded.

I guess in the magic kingdom where you live they don't get storms. How nice. Now -getting  back to reality...

That little beach cottage is in Kauai and rents for $3500 a week.

You have sacrificed nothing and no one.
