I check my bank account daily but I must admit, I've been married for 46 years and have never balanced my checkbook and my husband works for a bank and he has never balanced it either.

It's best to use the right pen to prevent check washing. The Uniball 207, black ink, is sold just about everywhere.

Theives or honest merchants don't even need a paper copy of your check.  Your account number and routing number can be used to remove money from your checking account and it can be done remotely

i only keep a few dollars in my checking and don't alllow the function to transfer funds from savings into checking if there is not enough money in my checking account to cover a transaction.

I can always do the transfer online and I do right before I pay a bill.

i haven't written a paper check in many years...my checks still have 19--- instead of 20-- on the dateline.

The bottom line is that if someone wants your money, there are many ways to steal it without you even knowing.

You just have to check your accounts often and keep on top of things.

I thought the same thing.  Five months??

I get an email everyday from my banks with updated checking & savings balances.  I also have alerts on my debit cards, any credit cards, store cards everytime I use them.  If $1+ comes out of any account, I know immediately.  Can't be too careful.

The $21,000 check was their quarterly payment to the IRS. They left it in their mailbox for their carrier and it was stolen. So they owe about $80,000 yearly in income tax. What I didn't understand is, if the IRS never got the payment, why didn't they alert the couple? It still would have been over 30 days, but not five months. Maybe they also don't read their mail?

We don't write many checks its all bill pay, also we don't keep a huge balance in our checking, we keep most of our money in other accounts and transfer as needed.
