What should one do if sending a birthday card to someone and want to enclose a check?

I don't put cash or gift cards in a card, because the post office employees can usually tell if a gift card is included.  It's easy to spot a greeting card of some type in the mail.

Seems like enclosing a check is the way to go.  (Or used to be anyway).

If it's a local friend/relative of course I see them in person.  I have some family/friends though that live in different states and I need to mail.

Any suggestions?

@Sunshine Kate Maybe someone has already responded, I only saw your question now.  The recommendation is to take any mail with a check to the post office, and use the slots there.  I do use mailboxes, make sure the letter drops in.  The likelihood that any one check is stolen from a mail box is still very small, though I guess be mindful of the neighborhood.  I can always put a stop payment if the check does not arrive at its destination as expected.  We have a certain amount of time to put a stop payment on a check.

It's really so awful!  I try to not write out a check but there is one company that I deal with (my trash carrier) that still wants a check!

I saw another story not too long ago about a woman who lost over $160K from her bank account!

She had gotten a text from "Chase" asking about a transaction and the woman responded by saying no, she didn't buy anything.

Well one thing led to another and the scammer called to speak with her to tell her that they needed some code on her card (I don't remember the details) but she gave it to them and they called several more times.

After a while she looked and saw money being taken out of her account.  She went to a branch in person to get it straightened out but she was told that they couldn't help her.  She was told that basically she let scammers steal from her account and it wasn't Chase's fault!

Yes she was ignorant but I felt so badly for her!  It could happen to a lot of naive people!

If a company does not use electronic transfer, my Credit Union will send them a paper check for your account.  I have a couple that they pay that way.

Those Uniball pens get awful reviews on Amazon so I went to Walmart to buy just one to try it.  I have to agree with the awful reviews.  You have to hold them perfectly vertically in order for anything to come out, and they don't write smoothly and they skip. Then you have to try to go back over the skipped parts leaving it looking a mess.  Buyer beware.
