You can't beat these thiefs. If you write a check it gets washed, if you pay online your account gets hacked, if you walk around with cash you can get robbed. You can only be vigilant with your accounts and do the best you can.

When I mailed checks, way back when, I recall pulling up to the drive up boxes on weekends. The mail boxes weren't emptied until Monday, and you could literally put you hand inside and pull out a fistful of mail because they were filled to capacity. Eventually they removed the boxes.

I love writing checks.
I hate thieves.
Is it immoral for me to put a hex on one?

What I won't do is write a check and put it in my mailbox. Instead I will drive to the PO and hand it to a clerk on the other side of the counter there.

Same for our yard keepers. We have an old typewriter and wondered if a type written check would be vulnerable to washing?

"You know'.........Just recently I've been thinking about writing checks.
Since depositing checks are often done using phones, and the person who receives the check discards the check into his/her trash (un-shredded), or lets it randomly float around in their car or eventually a sidewalk, couldn't someone find that check and retrieve our information?

@granddi don't know about type written checks but the Banks recommend indelible black gel ink.

I still write checks. It's worked well for me for 67 years. I hope that continues.
But, I also check my account frequently. Personal responsibility.
I never, ever use my debit card.

FYI, The article in post #1 addresses that, which is why I included the link.

This couple let 5 months pass without looking over their checking account statement.
I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but obviously these people can afford to lose that much money. Not check bank statements for five months?
OMG .... Who does that?
