@Oznell - I'm still watching!

I remember my mom talking about one time the actual capsule sank. It may have been early on, and I don't remember the astronaut(2) involved, but I remember her saying they want to save the capsule because of the costs involved 

I can't help wondering if Barbara Eden is watching, or any of the actors who have played astronauts! Space Cowboys is one of my favorite movies.

That happened in 1961 with Gus Grissom the second American in space. When the capsule splashed down the hatch blew open and it began taking on water. He had to exit the capsule when it began to sink. He almost drowned while waiting on the Navy ship to reach him. 

In January 1967, Grissom and 2 other astronauts were killed during a launch test when a fire broke in the capsule.

All I could think of, was the fact that in my lifetime, I lived to see the very first moon landing and now this.  I was a little girl, sitting between my parents on the sofa.  I didn't feel the weight of it then.

It gave me chills to witness this again.

@Coastalcarolina - I feel the same way. At first when Artemis was launching I thought - well, after all others have walked on the moon. But it's a new day. We were able to see more, and I was thoroughly engrossed in every word the crew said.  So glad they'll see their families tomorrow!

After we were just told, because we are at war, there is no money for daycare, medicare or medicaid.

But yeah very important to colonize mars. We have money for that.

Spent like drunken sailors and never on anything that helps the ordinary citizen. Most any other time, a space mission would be exciting to me. Now is not the time.

The money spent was spent here to create jobs, buy materials, and manufacture the devices. It didn't just evaporate away. It created jobs and opportunities. In 2025, we spent a reported $54.8 billion on foreign aid. That created jobs and opportunities for those overseas, but pretty much nothing here. I'd rather our money were spent here creating jobs and opportunities for Americans.
