Apparently, the name "Archie" was the 15th most popular name in the U.K. during 2018. And used as an independent name since the 19th century.
Regardless, as others have said, it's their baby.

I wonder if it will start a trend of Archies. Kathie lee did with Cody I think but not Cassidy.

What? No Riverdale fans?
Sorry, somebody had to say it. I see @Suzeecat and I are like minded thinkers. Let's just hope the trend ends here or they could end up with a Lord Jughead.
Seriously, though...adorable baby.

"Archie", originally a diminutive for "Archibald" has been an extremely stylish baby name in Britain. Think of it in the "Sadie", "Sophie" "Poppy" kind of category. And parents typically give just the diminutive as the given name.
"Archie" is very Scottish-- for some reason it was very popular in Scotland as far back as the 19th century at least.
Remember, Cary Grant was really "Archie Leach".
I don't pay attention to the fashionableness of a name, but I actually like "Archie" for their child, and think the choice was "brill", ha!

suzeecat,
Like you, my first thought went to the comic book character of the same name.
Then, I thought of Archie Bunker from the TV hit "All in the Family." My associations are not majestic, that's for sure, except for those minor characters in films with British men named Archie.. They populated certain films from decades ago.
And, of course, the formidably debonair actor Cary Grant was born Archibald Leach and known as Archie. I would like "Archibald." Nice and stately name. Archie, hmmm.

I like it! A casual-sounding first name followed by the royal-sounding remainder. Seems a perfect fit for this family. I wish them continued success is melding their royalty to their status within that royalty in which neither Harry nor Archie is likely ever to be King. Their obvious happiness in the pictures I saw this morning was uplifting to me.
