Subway Closing 631 Stores 🥴

Poor performance, lower than expected sales, and competition from other fast food shops.

Re: Subway Closing 631 Stores 🥴

For the first time in 20 years, the number of Subway's domestic locations dipped below 20,000, according to newly released franchise disclosure documents.

In 2024 alone, the company shuttered 631 restaurants across the US, leaving it with 19,502 stores nationwide.

Subway's decline follows years of overexpansion and legal issues affecting its brand.

Despite US closures, Subway's international locations have grown for two consecutive years.

the Subway in my area is nasty! The food is always messy and the taste is mediocre at best. Not to mention, there's always gnats flying around the condiments. I wish we could get a Jersey Mike's or even a Jimmy John's.

Well...only judging the last time I was in a local CT Subway was maybe 11 years ago..."quality" had gone downhill.

Dried out cheap buns for bread. Help that didn't speak English and hardly understood how to communicate with me. Please don't make that political, it's not...just practical. No matter who you hire, they have to be able to communicate with your customers. The food was meh. The whole experience felt "downhill"...I was only in there on a quick lunch 1/2 hr and needed something quick. My staple "safe" choice was always the veggie cheese sandwich...was not great. Never went in Subway again after that. That said....I'm sure there's all kinds of reasons this is happening. Not sorry to see it go...just sorry so many closings of so many businesses...all around.

Same here...and I'm judging based on my last time there 11 yrs ago...I'm sure it's gotten worse.

Not sorry to see it go either - Haven't had one of their subs in years.

DH always said, when I suggested grabbing one: "I'm not paying for all of that bread and a smidgen of meat!" Smiley LOL

We've not been in a subway for at least 5 years, and probably closer to 10.
