My family drives only Subarus, mainly Foresters and Legacys.

We keep up with the maintenance (oil changes, mile checks, etc) and until now have never had any issue with any of them.

We drive in town as well as on interstates, and on rougher roads as well.

The only reason we have traded them in is to get the newer models (after about 8-10 years.)

I have not driven an Outback, but I've never had an issue with the gas pedal in my Forester,  or heard of that being an issue with anyone else that I know.  However, if it's something that you notice, you definitely need to take it into consideration.

Mine is 10 years old, bought it 8 years ago and if anything I have to give it a little more goose to go over 75mph.

I've never heard that complaint before from anyone who drives an Outback.

I am soo glad I found this thread and some are comments on the Outback. We are in the market for a new car and I would like to try a Subaru my husband was looking at the Outbacks and liked them. We have owned a Mazda truck  for 17 years and no problems except now it has body rott and under the carriage is  getting bad  and I have owned a Camary for 7 years and a Honda Civic for many year with over 200,,00 miles but I would like a vehicle now with AWD and these have that feature. I was reading online about these cars and some the reviews were so negative on the Outback but I believe the reviews here better.

I have a Forester that is 10 years old.  It's my second, and I love it, except that the road noise is pretty loud.  I really like Subaru and would definitly test drive an Outback when I'm in the market, which I hope is not for another 10 years!  The one thing I would suggest is to listen for road noise.  Good luck.

We have had the same mechanic for over 40 years.  We take our new Toyotas to the Toyota dealer when they are under warantee but after that we switch to the local shop.  Thinking about replacing our car because of new safety features and considered the Subaru.  Never thought I would get the response I did from this guy.  He told me NO (and he fixes them... he said problems with oil and transmission, frequent oil changes and more expensive parts therefore more expensive labor time.  So I am not GOING THERE.  Decided to wait and check out the 2017 Toyotas.  My little Prius gets 52 miles a gallon no lie.  And the repairs on it are just maintenance.  We are going to switch to the small local shop because the warantee ran out.

Just bought my 4th Subaru and my first Outback.  Test drove the Forester and the Outback 4 wks ago and although my trade-in was a Forester, after the test drive decided to go with the Outback exactly because of the lumbar support. mileage is consistently as advertised and driving in snow is excellent. Love the eysight option on the car, truly improves safety. The car doesn't let you get too close to the car in front of you, if you don't brake, it does. notifies you if you wander over the lane lines, really easy controls on the steering wheel. i think I'm gonna love this newest version!

@graciesmom1  The Forester also has the same  lumbar support if you get one of the higher-end models. I don't know what mdoel that starts at, but it's not on the basic one but is on some others.

To the OP - for what it's worth, I have seen the Forester on lists of Ten Best Vehicles for Seniors because of the ease of entering and exiting the vehicle.   The Forester is an SUV.  The Outback is the crossover which is on a sedan chassis and is harder to get in and out of because you have to hoist yourself up and you "sink down" when you sit, as in sedans.   On the Forester you just slide off the seat.  (I did test drive both models when I was vehicle-shopping about a year and a half ago.  Shortly thereafter I started seeing these "best for seniors" lists and I agreed with them, based on my test drive.

The Forester is slightly smaller and gets slightly better mileage according to the stickers on the cars.

I use to have a Subaru Impreza and i loved it.  I couldnt have made it through the winter that year without it.  I only had it a couple of years because i trade up often but it was a great car, quick too.  I have a BMW with all wheel drive now and i feel like the AWD system on the Subaru was better.

WE are a Subaru family. So far we have owned 7 of them between myself, my son and my husband. I have the Outback wagon (older model) and love it. We have dogs so I need the extra room for them. The AWD is worth every $$. It holds so well on the road in both snow and rain. It's a very secure car. It's built like a small tank. I like the fact that no matter what model you want it's fairly complete with very few "extras" . I handle all the car negotions for our family and it drives me crazy when they start charging you for mud guards, stronger wiper blades, floor mats, etc. Gas mileage is decent and if you follow the owners guide for the check ups it will last and last. My wagon is 15 years old and still going. I don't think you can go wrong with a Subaru. It's the only car I will drive and put my grandson or dogs inside. It's just that safe.

We have 2 Outbacks. I think they're 6 cylinder, (not sure though). But they are the fully loaded models. Anyway, the seats are great and I have a really bad back. As a matter of fact, I cant ride in other cars (that are low to the ground) anymore since riding in our Subarus. Not only that, but they hold their value and they are great in the snow here in PA. We love Subarus!

My daughter has a 2015 Impreza and it was only last week that she said to me that she doesn't think she would ever buy anything else when it's time for a new one.
