We're looking at Outbacks, the 4 cylinder one.  Anyone hear have one and if so, how's your MPG?  Is it better or worse than you expected?  And do you find that the seats give you a lot of back support?  That's a big thing with me as I age.

I loved my Subaru.   They are safe, drive well in snow, and are tough.   But repairs are expensive, not every shop works on them,    They can rust in weird places,   Then they die at 200,000 miles.

I had an Impreza Outback Sport and got 35 mpg.   The seats are comfortable and I am a senior with a hip replacement.

Just bought my 4th Subaru and my first Outback.  Test drove the Forester and the Outback 4 wks ago and although my trade-in was a Forester, after the test drive decided to go with the Outback exactly because of the lumbar support. mileage is consistently as advertised and driving in snow is excellent. Love the eysight option on the car, truly improves safety. The car doesn't let you get too close to the car in front of you, if you don't brake, it does. notifies you if you wander over the lane lines, really easy controls on the steering wheel. i think I'm gonna love this newest version!

Hmmm...maybe I should trade in my Outback for a new one.  I like the sound of the added safety features.

Love, love my 2016 Outback.  I have owned a 2002 Outback, a 2008 Outback, now this new one.  The mileage around town is about 25 mpg.  For the size of the car, I am happy with that.  I do have the safety features others have described.  I am very comfortable with the support in the seat.  One of the features that is new for me is the automatic lift gate.  That is truly a help for my sore back.  This week the car was in for a recall on one of the computer modules.  It was very minor and took an hour to have the dealer reprogram the module.  The service department even washed the car for me.  No cost to recall or carwash.   Based on my personal experience over the last 14 years, I recommend a Subaru Outback.

Love the Forester! I had a 2011 that  my son totaled- the engine area was crushed like an accordian and he only had slight angt in one foot. That sold me on getting another one! - so far so good with my 2015 Forester1!

Re: Subaru owners

[ Edited ]

We own 2 Subaru Outbacks. Our newer one is fully loaded. And part of the reason we bought our first Subaru was because of the seats. I have a really bad back and I often joke that we should go buy a Subaru seat for in the house because its that comfy! I can tell you also that Subaru's hold their value on trade ins. Not to mention in the snow, they are fabulous! My husband no longer calls off work when it snows, only in ice.  Because our Subaru gets through any snow. Yes the gas mileage is good also. We love our Subarus and wont buy anything else!

Ours is now 8 years old, 163,000miles and we've never had a repair or problem. MPG is 26 highway.
I'd love a backup camera but have no plans for a new one any time soon.

My brother has a CrossTrek and I really like them too. I have driven a Forrester and it's just too stiff and noisy imo.

We have own 7 Subarus over the years for the entire family. (sedans, wagons and Suv's) I love them. They are safe, secure cars and go like a tank.  The back support in the seats are the BEST!  Our newest one is a 2013 and the gas mileage it very good. My husband has a long drive and he averages just under 30 miles pre gallon.

We always have dogs and they go in my car which is always a wagon or an Suv. There's plenty of height for them and for supplies for home projects. I find it a very user friendly vehicle.

We just love the car and have had very good luck with all of them. They last.

Well, we finally got back to our car search, test drove an Outback last week and really liked the car except for one thing.  We've had many, many new vehicles over the years and never have we encountered such a jerky, jumpy and sensitive gas pedal.  That thing took off like a scared rabbit.  I've googled it and there are too many comments on it to just be the fact that it takes some getting used to a different car.  Have any of you with this brand had a problem with this?  It could be a deal breaker, it was that bad.  I'd appreciate any comments, thanks.
