This was my fourth year since Covid "retired" me and produced the wonderful side effect of a completely stress-free Valentine's Day. (After 54 of them!)
If you live with, are married to, are friends with, or are a sibling of anybody who works in the flower industry.....
please be kind to them tonight.
For those who have always had the luxury of the chocolates, dinners, hearts and flowers Valentine's Day--it is nearly impossible to explain the absolute nightmare of this holiday for the folks who create and deliver the expressions of love that go out all over the world.
Most of those folks are finally home now and are whimpering with gratitude that it is over! Some probably have their feet in a tub of hot water and epsom salts, some are face down in their mashed potatoes, some are
savoring an adult beverage, and many are currently in dreamland.
As a former member of your ranks, I salute you and wish you a beautiful and happy "Best Day of the Year"....
February 15th.
Congratulations, guys! You have made it through another one!

@781Florist As the saying goes.....Thank you for your service. 💐. Along the same lines, this is how my CPA cousin feels every April 16th. 📝

This was quite enlightening as we not in the industry don't always realize the hard work that goes into the day.

@781Florist , very enjoyable ( at least for us lay people) and witty post on the travails of florist industry stalwarts on this frenzied day of reckoning.
Enjoy your extended respite...

@781Florist I had a cousin that owned a florist shop for years. She always said the worst part of Valentines was the customers (mostly men) who made frantic phone calls or came rushing into the shop ON Valentine's Day! They would have some things made in advance for such customers, but they ran out early in the day.

A friends brother just sold his floral business late last year. It was his mothers business. He is 75, and worked so hard and his body may never recover. He had a beautiful place, several greenhouses, and the place was remarkable. Now it's his time to finally rest. No one in the family wanted to take over the business.
@781Florist Thank you for all the wonderful days you made for others providing your service to others.

It's a very painful day for me; I've been trying to just get through it for the past 37 years and try as I might it still just hurts. That was the day that I found out my hubs of 15 years had another valentine that wasn't me. I put on my happy face and went around town trying to forget myself and enjoyed interacting with others. I'm just glad it's over and I moved through the day unscathed.

Well, heck, I forgot what I wanted to add most of all: as soon as I read the topic, Connie Francis was singing in my head
