It is definitely stuffing because I STUFF it up my turkey!

I'm from the midwest and our family always called it Dressing and it is NOT put inside the turkey.

AGREE!!
I never heard it called dressing until I moved to OK (or 'soda" for that matter!!
Dressing is on salad, OR dressing is what you do to your holiday table!!!

Stuffing, as in, stuff the turkey. Do mine on the stove now. Leary of getting sick from stuffing it - years ago. I'm sure it has always been safe and it's how past women in the family made it.

In Southern WV we call it dressing. Made with lots of onions and celery sautéed in bacon grease and butter, a mix of bread crumbs (I use leftover hamburger and hotdog buns, leftover biscuits and cornbread), chopped giblets, chicken broth, salt, pepper, and lots of sage. I make it the exact same way as both of my grandmother’s, and make it at least 2 days in advance for the flavors to mingle. We add no fruit, oysters, or nuts to our dressing.
Our dressing is made into patties and baked until the edges are crispy. The only foods my family wants to see on our Thanksgiving table is turkey breast, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce and rolls. My husband and daughters will even eat dressing and gravy for breakfast! I make dressing in the largest bowl I own (30 cup size), and that is 2 bakings of our favorite patties.

We've always called it 'stuffing', although we bake it separately. Btw, Anyone here miss turkey legs all year long? They used to be readily available year around. Now, not so much.

Mmmmm good!
I've also tried making stuffing in muffin tins for individual servings. They are so good like that, especially if you like the crispy outside of the stuffing when you bake it, which I love. They're perfect size and taste yummy!
