Somehow a police officer happened to find the packages in the woods close to an Amazon fullfillment center.
No criminal charges are being filed as this is an "HR matter for Amazon".
80 packages were discovered.

I agree with the comments posted thus far.
No, it's not right but those jobs can be pressure cookers; some inevitably crack.
The packages weren't destroyed so it doesn't seem truly malicious. Hopefully, they will find their way to their rightful owners.

The update I got on my phone yesterday was that he was charged with theft and intent to sell this stuff. Not surprised.

Seems like this pops up every year. There are also stories about a few Fedex drivers doing the same and several similar stories of various drivers going a few years back. I don't doubt there's pressure to perform and some might well feel desperate. Then again, some are just lazy. They signed on for the job and simply didn't want to do it.

I can only imagine the pressure they are under at this time of year and some of those drivers are not young.

That surprises me. With all the tracking bar codes and steps in the tracking process, there's no way he could deny the "chain of custody" thing.
I also seem to recall this happening in the past with USPS mail carriers.
Delivering packages must be a nightmare .... and then even adding the pain of a pulled muscle or twisted ankle could easily overwhelm someone. It sure would make me want to quit, period.

There have been no criminal charges filed against the driver as of now and she confessed to the action.
