I don't take calls from people or numbers I don't recognize. I have an answering machine and why others take calls these days from callers they are not familiar with is beyond me.
And ""Windows"" would never be calling any more than the ""Maytag"" man would.

I got the same call a few months ago.
They didn't call me names but when I started asking them to be more specific about who
they were and what they wanted they hung up.
I wasn't going to tell them anything anyway but it was really creepy.

had that happen too...and ironically it came at a time my computer had the very issue they called about. My son was home and he answered the phone..he googled the number as it came up Microsoft on the Caller ID.
He wanted to speak to the Supervisor ..and they wouldn't give him to them..my son said it was not his computer so he wanted their contact info for his mother to call them back..they did not give it..he did a search after they called and it is a scam...we just don't know how they knew what issues we were having or if it was just a coincidence...
I had the problem fixed by Stopzilla company ...who was fantastic.

I would just tell them I work for ""Windows"" and was getting ready to call him to fix his computer. I love catching these crooks off guard just to see who can out wit the other.

I asked him where he was -- he said California and would not give a city. So then I asked why did his number show up as a local Atlanta phone number on my phone. Normally I don't answer numbers I don't know -- but since it was local I thought it was a legit call.

Yes, I have received such a call. The lady got upset and told me that if I didn't believe her I could call her back for proof. She had an accent, told me her name was Florence, and gave me a phone number. I called the Better Business Bureau, they looked up the number and said it was out of New York. They said several people had contacted them reporting this scam.

christian devil eh? Not too bad....I had one call me a mother-""you know what""

This is what happened to me. What happened was that a man called and said that he was from a certain website and my computer was sending out error messages and directed me to a legitimate website, but I called the number on the website and the woman told me it is a scam. She told me that Microsoft does not call people on the phone.

Because the problem has been around so long and is so widely known, one of the first choices you'll get is the Microsoft Safety and Security Center's article with full info.
"Cybercriminals don't just send fraudulent email messages and set up fake websites. They might also call you on the telephone and claim to be from Microsoft. They might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:
--Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.
--Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.
--Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.
--Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there..."
