I ordered an item and it has had a strange journey.  It started in Lancaster PA which is about two hours from me.  I live in the middle of PA. Then it went to New Jersey and then to Ohio.  Then back to PA to a place about 45 minutes from me. Then it went back to Ohio and is to depart from there again.  Hopefully to me.  Has anyone noticed such strange package journeys?  Seems like a waste of time and resources to me.

Ohio must be a hot spot for sorting - or something.  Yes, have had that trip in the past.........O to NY........back to O and back again;

Likely happens as no human is actually reading the address. Scanning machines may be in the wrong. This was a travel for a box of lemons I was sending to our daughter in NY. It finaly came back to us and we resent it with a new label.

My wife told me about several orders, not just from shopping channels, that have taken several routes. One was even in town/transferred out of town to a different carrier. Then delivered by the original carrier that transferred it out of town.

Why?  I am guessing "useless internal Red Tape Policies". I worked over 3 decades for a well known big company that "followed the book" on antiquated policies. I did managed to get several of them changed or removed over those years.

@seedpie    Your package's journey is nothing.  Some go all over the US.  For some reason people are endlessly fascinated by this and love to relate where theirs has been.  I don't really care as long as mine gets to me in a reasonable period of time.
