Strange but funny article about adding salt to tea!

[ Edited ]

There is an article in I think it was USA today that said a man had said that adding a tiny bit of salt to tea made it less bitter.

Well, there was such an outrage, even the American Embassy got involved saying this was a crime or something and they would unite with the Brits in which the claim of adding salt did not go over well at all!

The end of the article said we would just keep doing it the way it should be..microwaving it!

That was funny. Bless that microwave!

I was surprised when a Hallmark movie I was watching had the woman offering tea.

Maybe tea is more elegant and upscale than coffee I don't know. More Americans drink coffee than tea I learned and bottled water tops the list, despite the recent findings that most have tiny bits of plastic in the water!

I wondered too if different parts of the country favor one over the other and read that is true.

Both of my aunts and even a daughter only drink tea.

I do think there is a difference in really good quality tea and not so good at all.

Maybe it's what you get used to. I only like tea once in a blue moon. And coffee is a must.

What do you think about this?

Coffe or tea or don't care at all lol!

Tea only for me. I drink Lipton. Not all teas are the same.

You know I did have a friend who added salt to her coffee as her parents did. They were form South America. And I think they also added condensed milk. I tried it and it was wonderful. The salt does surprisingly reduce the bitterness.

Gave up coffee years ago and switched to tea.  No regrets.

I like caffeinated coffee and tea both. Sometimes I like Camomile tea though.

Re: Strange but funny article about adding salt to tea!

@on the bay ,  I heard several commentators talking about that story, and thought it was funny too!  Don't get between the Brits and their tea.  They have very strong ideas about it,  India vs. China tea, milk first, milk last, etc. etc.   When I heard the story, I knew immediately that salt would be an outrage.

Since you asked, I'm equally fond of tea and coffee-- maybe from having dual Canadian/American citizenship, ha.  Naw-- although there's a deep tradition of tea in Canada, (and other Commonwealth countries), coffee is just as strong there.

The British tea "P.G. Tips" while a bit of a cliche, is easily accessible here in the U.S. in local stores, and is my favorite, without going into the really esoteric teas.  Very respectable tea.   Occasionally, I like Lapsang Souchong, a smoky tea.

Allow myself one coffee per day, and one tea.    I make coffee in a vintage stovetop percolator, or a Keurig, or a French press.  My favorite now is the simplicity of the steel pourover drip-- it's just like a steel funnel that you balance on a cup-- so easy!   I got mine for about $11 at Amazon.

I'm having chamomile right now because I work tonight. Woman LOL

I'll probably have some Earl Grey before work...

I love coffee but can't drink it for medical reasons.  So, I switched to tea.

Decided that I wanted organic tea after reading a bit about teas.  I have to be careful of caffeine - it's horribly addicting for me and for some reason, I talk a lot more after a caffeinated beverage.

Favorite company is Fraser Tea and love their Hot Cinnamon tea flavor.
