Storing Summer Clothes--How Do You Do It?

I thought it would be interesting to see how other people handle this problem!

I am storing some of my summer clothes (a chore I hate).  I am going to hang some shirts and dresses upstairs in garmet bags; box up some pants in plastic containers and put in the walk out storage upstairs, and fold some t-shirts in sweater boxes to put in the top of the closet.

Some summer shoes will go in boxes in the top of the closet--we have a lot of space up there.

It's sometimes hard to decide what to donate or throw away.  And then there are some things that have to be washed and maybe ironed or go to the cleaners!

Decisions, decisions, decisions!  And too many purses in the mix too!

So have you done this already?

@Sooner@I am lucky enough to have a big closet so I just move mt summer to the back and bring all else forward.I don’t change out my purses but some shoes will also go to the back....done in no time.I don’t but anything that needs to go to the cleaners so that isn’t a problem for me either.I usually decide to donate the next season when I bring those clothes forward.Sometimes I still love what I have after giving it a rest.

I store my summer clothes in a storage bin w/wheels.

My summer shoes & sandals in shoe boxes on top closet shelf.

I forgot to add that I do not iron.  Clothing that needs ironing, goes to the cleaners to "get pressed."  My Cleaners charge $1 per item.

Most of mine, including shoes, goes in plastic bins on the top shelves of my closet (I have one long shelf on each side). One plastic bin fits on the floor of my closet under the clothes on the side where I hang pants. I don't change my bags out--they all fit on 3 shelves above the chest on the back wall.

DH customized my closet for me a few years ago, and I absolutely love it. The only way it could be more perfect is if it was bigger, lol! I have tons more hanging space, and better drawer/shelf storage.

My "someday" goal is to pare down my wardrobe enough so that it can all stay on the hangers, in the drawers year round--no "changing out" the closet for the seasons anymore.

I don't store anything, all my clothes-shoes-boots-accesories stay in the same spot year round. I don't have a custom closet, simply use a normal size bedroom closet, a dresser & hall closet for coats.

Yes to this. I live in central Texas there are many days in the winter where it's in the 80s, so I need warm weather clothing available year 'round. Likewise, there aren't many very cold days here, so I don't have enough cold weather clothing to worry about storing - it doesn't take up that much room.

@kitcat51.  Same here. I don't have or need a ton of clothes.

Clothes go into big plastic Rubbermaid bins and are stored in the bottom and top of the closets.

Shoes go into large mesh bags stacked on top of bins. I never put shoes away in a closed container.  Did that once and it really ruined the shoes.  I had to throw away about half of them.

Re: Storing Summer Clothes--How Do You Do It?

Anything that can be on hangers, without it getting mishapen, is hung in my spare closet.  Sweaters and things that may stretch out are folded and stay in my bedroom closet year round.  I have shoe organizers in my bedroom closet and everything for all seasons is stored in there.  The two or three pair of shoes that I wear a lot for Summer (or Winter) are on my bedroom floor beside one of my dressers.  T-shirts, jeans, sweatshirts, athletic pants, PJ's are all kept in the dressers in my bedroom.
