Knew about the heating issues for years (thanks to integrative medicine specialist Dr. Andre Weil) and it's why I've been using ceramic, stoneware, and glass in the microwave,
If possible, storing food using plastic that's BPA-free is healthier. But it's important to be aware of the plastic storage risks in general for kids.

BPA is what scientists have said was harmful. I have never heated or cooked anything in plastic...except now I remeber heating frozen dinners at work in micro...yikes... I have read some glass is toxic and contains lead....so what do we put our leftovers in? Dr said to not use aluminum foil...can build up in brain tissue and cause Alzheimer's.....is it back to wax paper? I need to get out my grandmother's Pyrex!

Ceramic and stoneware can have lead. Hard to pick what's safe.

I cleaned my kitchen a few years ago. I have no plastic. None...well except for a rice paddle and an old tupperware cup I keep for sentimental reasons. I do not own or use plastic glasses wither. Glass. Cheaper and tastes better to me. I like to drink out of pint wide mouth mason jars

I don't even put the plastic bowls in the dishwasher. I also heard that what they've replaced BPA with might be just as bad and maybe worse than the BPA.

I see young women heating/reheating food in plastic containers and cooking in plastic type containers in the microwave every day at work. I never do that. In fact it pretty much creeps me out. I have lots of lock n lock that I use for storage but I slip the item in its original packing into the lock in lock. I would never for instance dump my flour or sugar or anything else into a plastic container. Plastic is essentially a jumble of chemicals, not anything I want my food to touch.

I got rid of all my old plastic containers and bought glass. I have since purchased a few plastic containers to use in the freezer but I have not heated food in plastic containers for several years.

I’ve used glass only for years. It is about more than reheating and more than about kids.
