I always donate the first time, so when I come back, I say, "Not today, thank you, I gave last time."
Sometimes, though, they are raising funds for a local child that I have read about in the newspaper, and I will donate every time.

I usually donate, but don't ask me the next day if you just asked me yesterday (same cashier)
On Saturday, I was at a different store, and the young cashier asked me, I declined, He was going on and on that it's only a dollar and it helps kids. I said "then donate", he said he doesn't make enough LOL ....SMH

I am noticing it more and more. It's really annoying. Sometimes I donate, but mostly I just say no. I am most likely to donate to animal charities and will round off my purchase to the next dollar as a donation.

I think it just reflects the overall mentality of how charities try to raise funds these days. We have 2 PBS channels in my city & I try to donate to both of them when I can. A year has gone by on one of my donations, & that tv channel sends me multiple mailings asking me to continue donating. Sometimes I want to tell them they'd have more money if they didn't spend so much on paper, envelopes & postage, to beg me for more $$. Yes, I know they get special rates for postage, etc. Same with the animal shelter that I often give to.

then, when the store donates to the charity-THEY get the tax credit.

This topic comes up a lot here. I generally do give when asked but I admit I tend to avoid stores that make a practice of it.

@jaxs mom Some of the checkers deserve to be on a wall of shame. Today I stopped in Albertsons...Bought my stuff.......got to my car....was over charged...went back in....she "supposedly fixed it.....got my change looked at the receipt and the change was wrong....finally got it fixed....got to my car a third time,... And she did not give me back my original receipt...HAD TO GO IN A THIRD TIME.....to get my receipt.
I mean PLEASE. I was a cashier for 25 years( before they started begging for money) and I never was an airhead.
I'm not referring to legitimate complaints in my post.

I think, for me, it isn't a big deal at all. Hardly worth thinking about. They "ask", I decline and that's the end of that. I have specific charities that I donate to and my church. And that's it.

I'm not one to speak up about things, but I'd have a hard time not letting management know that's just not right.
Speaking of inferior stores, we had an Aldi's open up here and I thought I'd check it out. Once was more than enough! Luckily we have quite a few stores to choose from.
