Re: Stores No Longer in Business

I never shop on line, though I'll look on line and call my order into QVC or HSN. Mostly though, I still shop B&M. stores. It's very sad. Our last remaining K Mart is liquidating now. The local Sears appliance store closed awhile back.

Re: Stores No Longer in Business

So many shopping memories in all those pictures of storefronts I frequented over the years.  So many seemed like giants in their area of expertise and not the likely ones to go out of business.  You just never know.  Thanks for dusting off the memories.

My first job while in 10 th grade: candy counter at Woolworth’s ... 60 years ago !  Between weight gain and cavities, it wasn’t the best decision for me, lol !!!

Toys R Us is coming back. They announced that back in July. They said they will be in business for the 2019 holiday season.

Re: Stores No Longer in Business

Thank you for the memories.  It's remarkable how many stores have disappeared in our lifetime.  I didn't know The Limited went out of business, probably because I rarely step foot in a mall.

In Media, PA, an old Woolworth's store is now Deals, selling five-and-dime type stuff. I like it because much of the original building remains.  The interior has wooden, creaky floors and pressed tin ceilings.

Re: Stores No Longer in Business

Very sad. I worked retail my whole life. Started in Jan. 1976 and wrapped it up in Oct. of 2017. I never thought it would come to this. Shopping for me was more than just going out to get something you need. It was more of go with a friend, laugh, talk, have lunch. And when I worked in retail, I tried to make sure my customers had a pleasant experience. In this day and age, it seems like the less human contact, the better. I know most younger people prefer to shop online. This includes my own grown kids. I still like to shop brick and mortar over online. Is online shopping a trend, or is it here to stay?

My neighborhood Bed Bath Beyond recently closed, such a beautiful store, gone!!! The Toys R Us that was next to it is now Hobby Lobby.

@ValuSkr  When I was a kid, Woolworth's sold parakeets.  Loved to look at the pretty yellow, blue and green birds.
