Another time at work I saw a younger girl walking out of the front door with my lamb leather jacket. I knew it was mine because I had it custom made for me from a leather shop in Australia. I was a rich wine color and has 3/4 length sleeves. I've never seen another jacket like it.
I ran after her and asked for my jacket back. She refused to give it to me. I was hot and mad. I told her that I was going to beat the **** out of her if she didn't take it off and give it back. Security came because she began yelling at the top of her lungs.
i explained the problem and told security that I was going to call the police. She still insisted the jacket was hers. I asked her where she purchased it. She said NYC.
I explained to security that the jacket was mine and had my initials on the lining. Sure enough, I got my jacket back. No one even did anything to her. I would have fired her.
That's terrible!
I can imagine how you must have felt. There were times when I wished I had a black belt in Karate or had some great boxing skills. LOL.
I would have called the police anyway and filed a report. Who knows what else she had stolen from others.
Daisy, your comments cracked me up.
My father taught all of his children to defend ourselves. He was very street smart and wise. I used to be quite the fighter when I was younger..... Only if I had to be.
Now, at age 61, I probably could not fight my way out of a paper bag, but I sure would try if I had to.
My work place would not allow the police in to take a report for stolen items. A co-worker took off a 5 ct diamond eternity bracelet she received for her anniversary from her husband to wash her hands in the ladies room and walked out without it. Another co-worker found it and said "finders keepers."
it it was a pretty big deal. The police were not allowed in the building and the finder ended up keeping the bracelet. The loser had to file an insurance claim.
It was talked about all over the building. That's why I threatened the girl with my jacket. I was desperate to get it back.
i don't know how some people live with themselves after being so dishonest.

Why would the valet want his jacket though? Was it extremely valuable? Can't image being tempted to steal something that wasn't super expensive.

I've had a valet damage the transmission of my car. It's very hard to get compensation from a valet company.

Who knows why he'd want the jacket. It is apparent an employee did take it for whatever reason.
Many years ago when mink stoles were fashionable, my mother checked her brand new one with coat check at my cousin's wedding. When my father went to retrieve it, there was a ratty old stole in place of her new one.
Eventually the hotel did replace it. Luckily my mother happened to have a picture of herself outside the church in her new stole and my father had the receipt.
I know some will probably say it served her right for wearing fur. This was the 1960's and many ladies wore fur.

Sorry this happened. It is sad that we can't trust people to do the right thing. I rarely use valet parking, but I do have a key that lets the valet park but not open the trunk. My dad had his coat stolen from the doctor's office, and my nephew had a team jacket stolen from school. I never leave my coats anywhere, and I never leave anything of value in my car when I take it in for service.

This morning I had a doctor's appointment. Today is the first time I needed to wear a winter coat. The coat rack was right next to the door; I'm not even sure it was in view of the receptionists. Anyone could easily walk in, take a coat and leave. When the nurse called my name, she said I should hang up my coat. I said, "No thank you, I'll carry it."

I'm sorry your son lost his jacket, but like everyone has said, we have to be responsible for our personal belongings. I have never left anything visible in my car. I don't even leave anything valuable in the locked trunk. When I go to the dentist or doctor, I keep my coat with me, and it goes without saying that I never hang my handbag over the back of the seat in a restaurant nor does it ever leave my hands.

This must be a regional thing. ( hanging coats up in a Dr. office)
edit: I am thinking the waiting area. Here they don't do this. You bring your coat in exam room.

I LOVE valet parking and use it whenever it is available. I have a valet key but never use it. I don't normally leaves valuables in my car but I have never had any problems with valets, car washes or having car serviced. This thread is a very sad comment on today's youth evidently.
