PUNTA GORDA ISLES, Fla. (CNN) – Often times when you catch a stingray on a fishing trip, it’s a disappointment. Not this time.

A fishing trip near Fort Myers turned into a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Florida teenager.

Calvin Conger caught a stingray that he soon discovered was giving birth! He caught the momma near Ponce De Leon Park.

I kinda' feel bad for the stingray and the babies. It has to be much more comfortable to participate in the birth process in salt water.

That makes me sad. The stingray didn't need his help. What if it couldn't find it's young since the jerk threw them in the water?

They should have just let it go and let Nature take it's course.

I'm just glad he wasn't a ""jerk"" and made the choice to video and then release all three rather than go ahead with his original intent.

Wasn't that the coolest thing ? My oldest child was mesmerized and I was just smiling. Really a neat thing to see.

I agree. Who knows the consequences of that creature not giving birth in its natural habitat or the health of the offspring.
