Very bad idea. Vaccine has nothing to do with stimulis checks. What they should do is only send the checks to people OUT OF A JOB.

THere are so many who don't need the check, such as retirees on fixed incomes and those lucky enough where their jobs were NOT affected by the pandemic.  Not sure why people making over $75,000 or so need a check anyway.

@bargainsgirl,, spoken like someone that has no idea what it is like to live on a fixed income with prices for everyday necessities, like groceries for example, going up not by pennies but by quarters and half dollars.

My state is already talking about finding new revenue to off set loses due to so many being out of work and sales tax collections being down so much.  Cities and counties are already discussing increased mil rates to make up for lost revenue.

But hey, what the heck, people on a fixed income don't have to worry about things like eating, keeping their homes, being able to drive because they have that same check coming in once a month and their fixed income magically goes farther than everyone else's money.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

The only person I know of, who is refusing to get a vaccine is my sister in law who works at a hospital. I don't think she is using good judgement.

Everyone else is wanting to get one whether they get stimulus money or not. Some want it so bad, are finging ways to get it ahead of those who suppose to be getting it.

If I have to cheat to get the ****** vaccine I won't get the thing.

@happycat

It is a choice. No one is forced to get it. From what I have heard, many medical professionals have made an educated decision not to get the vaccine.

Many people are earning much less than they did before the pandemic for a variety of reasons and through no fault of their own.

@bargainsgirl"Not sure why people making over $75,000 or so need a check anyway."

Because that is the GROSS amount.  The "net" = actual amount of their paycheck is much lower.

Might be a 1 income household w/a bunch of children

Might be a 2 income household w/a bunch of children

High morgage/rent

Lives in an expensive State (New York & California as examples).

There are many many variables confirming $75k "gross" does not go very far in a household now-a-days.  I know folks who gross over that amt you listed on SNAP benefits.

Re: Stimulus checks and vaccines

I've always associated a "fixed income" to mean not having much leeway in what you can afford and if an unexpected bill comes in, there may not any extra because you have a certain amount you can spend each month on the essentials and any more can put someone in a compromising position.

$75,000 can go pretty far in some places but those areas tend to be economically depressed with few well paying jobs unless you can telecommute from anywhere in more tech jobs. It definitely doesn't go far where I live.

Re: Stimulus checks and vaccines

@summergal1 Have you talked to anyone that has chosen not to get the vaccination about their reasons for not wanting to get it?

There is a lot of conflicting information about Covid, masks, vaccinations, etc...

I can see that you feel strongly about it & that is okay. But, it doesn't mean that yours is the only opinion & it doesn't mean that other people don't feel strongly about it, also.

I don't believe that anyone wants this to go on longer than it needs to.

I don't believe that anyone wants to endanger anyone.

I don't believe that anyone needs to be mean or hurtful to others to voice a concern.

Is there proof that the vaccination is safe? No.

Is there proof that the vaccination is effective & reliable? No.

Is it possible that it is save & effective? It's possible.

I think all of us are doing the best that we can each day & trying to do what we feel is right for ourselves & the world around us.

Re: Stimulus checks and vaccines

I agree with those that said the stimulus checks should be going to people out of work.  My DH and I don't need the stimulus money and I gave the last check away to various charities, I gave most of to two local food banks to help families that are in need.

As far as giving the stimulus checks being given as an reward to get vaccinated, I don't think it would work unless you didn't receive a check until after you got your 2nd shot.  Giving people money before they are asked to do something wouldn't work.  In our area, everyone I know has either gotten the shot or they're trying to get it.  I haven't talked to one person who isn't planning on getting it, though I'm sure they are around.  I just hope that the percent of the population needed to create heard ammunity gets the vaccine but respect anyone's choice not to get it.  I got my first shot but to be honest, I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do, I too have questions about it but decided to go ahead and get it but the main point is that it was my decision.

You do realize that retirees on fixed incomes will NEVER see their income increase for the rest of their lifetime?

Wouldn't it be nice for them to say, I'm on a fixed income therefore you cannot raise the price of anything I need to buy or use.  Not food or utilities or taxes or insurances or clothing , etc.

Re: Stimulus checks and vaccines

Stimulus money is MY money

DC does nothing to generate revenue, every dollar they spend is from me or others like me,

Give me my stimulus, I'll spend it better than they will

Has nothing to do with the vaccine

I've heard some news around me as well, about raising revenue for what was lost.   First of all maybe now those who spend the money will made the connection between money in & money out.    And 2nd since they were the ones who closed everything down, maybe it should come out of their pocket.  They don't have enough skin in the game.    This debacle of putting people out of jobs & losing their businesses has been a disaster.
