it's amazing this check is being used for material things and not what it was intended for.  No wonder the government is broke.

This check is meant to meet peoples basic short term monetary needs.

If you don't need this money, please donate all or part to your favorite charity?

Saving it to pay bills; unfortunately I don't have direct deposit so no idea when I'll get it.

@onlyshopsonline : Are you willing to share information about the generator? We decided to research this since we really have no family to help if we had an emergency. We live in area that does not have power outages often but a few years ago did and extra freezer and refrigerator full and everything spoiled and insurance claim only reimbursed about half value. @kutira here is information that was posted in another thread on this topic by @Nightowlz.  You will get your check based on a schedule determined by your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income, or your 2018 AGI if you haven't filed your 2019 taxes yet.

This was on Yahoo Finance yesterday.

Paper Checks Will Take Longer

If the IRS has to send you a paper check, you won't get your payment until late April at best. And the higher your income, the longer it will take to get your money. (For taxpayers without children, stimulus check amounts are reduced to zero for single taxpayers with adjusted gross income above $99,000, head-of-household filers with AGI above $136,500, and joint filers with AGI above $198,000.) According to reports, here's the timetable the IRS plans to use for mailing paper stimulus checks:

Darling brother in law suggets I use  1/3 for property taxes, 1/3 for credit card debt and use 1/3 to spend and stimulate the economy.  He follow financial matters on CNBC and was told this is the best advice from the experts there.

@SouthernBee   We bought a gasoline powered portable generator to replace an old one that we had. We ordered it from Home Depot and it was delivered right to our driveway. I believe it powers about 6500 watts.

It's enough to power 2 refrigerators, deep freeze, lamps, modem, TV, lights, microwave, pressure cooker or slow cooker, etc. We have a wood stove insert as a winter heat source. And if we lose power during the summer, we can run fans.

It needs to be placed at least 20 ft from the house. We already have a concrete pad, and we purchased a generator tent to keep it dry in the rain or snow. We also have several 100 ft extension cords meant to be used for the purpose of bringing the electricity into the house.

We haven't had an extended power outage for about 9 years. But felt like this was certainly not the time to not be prepared. And, we've got the set-up down to a science. Between my husband and me, we can get everything powered up in about 20 minutes.

"I've been here since October 2006. Wow!"
