If you handle it well, good for you. Some don't. I see few people keeping their heads in the sand. They're just refusing to accept raucous delivery vehicles and low-value content. You can keep yourself adequately up to date with online, nonvideo from trustworthy sources. People seem to be doing that, or being far more selective about what they allow into their minds and hearts. I applaud their their discernment and willpower.

The current broadcasting's noise-to-signal ratio is abusive to viewers. I'm glad folks are recognizing that and taking action.

Re: Starting Day 4 Of My News Blackout.

Everyone is different, and it's good to know your tolerance level for various stresses.

I do watch about 3 hours of televised news daily....couple hours of local in the morning, local noon news, local at 6 followed by national news for a half hour.  I am not glued to the screen the whole time....usually on my iPad at the same time.

I see things come across my newsfeed during the day, and if I am curious or concerned, I research more online.

For me, it is better to know what is going on..that's my comfort zone. But I understand why some limit, and that's good they are taking care of themselves.

Good for you, I am delighted to hear you are feeling a whole lot better by staying away from the news.  You didn't even need a doctor to help you, you did all yourself.  Keep up the good work and once you start watching the news again, I don't have to tell you to keep it to a limit, you already know that.  Stay healthy, stay safe.  Heart

@noodleann Ah, there's the rub.  Can we be trusted to evaluate the sources that we rely on for our news.  There's certainly "outsiders" that are also influencing our sources and frankly, we are ill equipped to know the difference.

We just added a t.v. selection to what we are getting, so we can see the Weather Channel.  We both like it and don't have to watch a whole newscast (krap) to get it.

We'll also get the Hallmark channels again.  We so much more enjoy the gentle shows. Violence we can get on the news, we don't want they anymore.

Mr. still listens to more news than I do. So he brings me up on a few things. When I listened to the news, he'd come up and repeat some again.  I'd already heard it, it just was too too much.

Good for you!  I began a news diet a couple of months ago.  At first, I cut way back, only watching it once a day; just long enough to catch up on the latest news and no more.  When all the rioting started, I stopped watching entirely.  It made such a difference in how I felt.  So many people were wringing their hands while I was blissfully living in my own peaceful world.  For me, I survived not knowing all that stuff.  It didn’t add one whit to my life or well-being.  In fact, being removed from it was the best thing I ever did.

Yeah go on this DIET and Lose the stress.  I like that.  Winner!!

Re: Starting Day 4 Of My News Blackout.

We lost power, internet, and cell service for many days after the derecho hit Iowa last week.  I was hungry for news by the time things started coming back on.  But it was also good to be away from news for a while.

I had cut back on news prior to the derecho and it was amazing how my sanity returned.  I don't watch a certain politician because I know all that will be said is hate and lies.  That alone kept my blood pressure normal.

The constant disinformation and directed attacks by the media makes me sick to my stomach. People listen to this filth and believe it! I quick watching them a long time ago.

Re: Starting Day 4 Of My News Blackout.

I'm no fan of what television has become over the decades. I watch only news, weather, PBS, and Q. I could easily get along fine with an antenna on the roof and completely ditch the high cost of television service these days. Have seen a little of those phony reality shows....honestly, how can people watch that stuff?  My generation was raised on Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason and I Love Lucy. Today's TV fare pales in comparison IMO.
