I think Starbucks is at the forefront of a growing trend. My only question is why only ASU? Think it's a fine school and my son, currently in Jr College, will probably transfer there, but why only there? They must gotten a terrific deal with ASU!

I suspect ASU agreed to participate.

Other schools? Maybe they didn't.

My understanding is that ASU and Starbucks have an arrangement. If 3% of Starbucks employees take this offer, it will cost the company 50 million a year.

<em>"but a college degree isn't a guarantee of a good paying job like it was 30-40 years ago."</em>

That's true, but studies show that as a group, those with a college degree make more money than those who don't have a college degree.

People with college degrees have about a 3% unemployment rate too.

The studies continue to show people with college degrees have a lower unemployment rate than those with out one.

That's what I wrote...the current US unemployment rate (all people and educational backgrounds) is over 5% - closer to 6% - so almost DOUBLE that of people with at least a 4 year degree.

I know you wrote it, terrier. I hadn't known the 3% figure, I was adding to what you wrote for those who might not get the impact. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about that Smile

i think it's great. my only hope is that they don't start cutting employees hours back to 19 hours per week and less. some companies do do that.

Only instance in my life where I'm holding a grudge, and I don't believe there is anything that will redeem Starbucks for me. A Starbucks in NYC charge RESCUE WORKERS $130 for 3 cases of water during the 9/11 crisis. UNFORGIVEABLE.

Were the rescue workers volunteers?

They will end up cutting everyone's hours. I don't really like their coffee, so I don't shop there.

Follow the story then as it progresses. Cutting the hours does not seem to be the company style at all.
