Have you ever gotten a phone call from yourself? My phone rang several days ago. I checked the caller ID and was shocked to see my own name and phone number! I answered the phone and got my own recording..."We can't come to the phone right now. . ." How could this have happened? {#emotions_dlg.scared}

Hi, Fortune! I've heard of this happening as a part of the phone service. The voice mail system sometimes has a mechanism that actually calls you. The fact that you said you heard your own voice mail recording causes me to think that was it -- why not call your service provider and ask them?

Yes, that could be pretty eerie.{#emotions_dlg.scared}

No phone calls like that but I get emails from myself that are ads for products I have no interest in. Weird!

That's a frequent ploy used by spammers. It's called "email spoofing." If you hover the cursor over the "from" (where it seems to be showing your name/address), you'll see the actual sender info. Also, you can check your "Sent" folder, and you'll see that the message didn't originate from your email account.

That's known as "caller ID spoofing," and it's illegal but hard to prosecute.{#emotions_dlg.angry}
