No, you're talking about what was said to have happened after the second show, which was the apology show Friday.

Perhaps nurses who work in hospitals  (and maybe nursing homes?)  walk around with one, but I don't even remember the last time I was in a hospital .... knock on wood.

Well, it is situational and depends on the type of doctor you visit, what treatments are offered and if in fact the person in the office is a nurse but office assistants take vital signs too.  As a matter of fact, if you saw someone in your doctor's office in scrubs with a stethoscope, you would assume it was your doctor's nurse?  Tho, it may be an office assistant or physician's assistant but the term "nurse" is often used generically.  Some offices have automatic blood pressure machines or the doctor may do his/her readings....in my orthopedists office, there is no need....in an oncology practice or OB for instance a nurse would always carry one.  It doesn't matter if you see them or not, it is a basic tool of a nurse and most likely utilized more often and longer than when a physician uses one, with the eXception of a cardiologist, maybe.  But, the instrument is not called "a doctor's stethoscope" as Joy stated. Suggesting that only a doctor may utilize one.   But nurses in clinical situations always have a stethoscope on or near them...

Which is even worse, making the "apology" by that person a total insult. Of course "sources from The View" are going to say it isn't true - what else would they say. But people got screen shots of her insulting tweets before she deleted them, so if she was tweeting twash why would (the figurative) you not believe she said something similar aloud?

OK, here's my take on the whole "talent" issue - I didn't see this particular contestant's talent demonstration, so these are just my thoughts based on what I've gathered from online sources.

In previous pageants, I have seen contestants recite poetry or give dramatic recitations - sometime in costume, sometimes not.  This contestant wore her working clothes, while reading an essay (or possibly a monologue) on the subject of her profession.

First of all, it isn't everyone who can speak or read in public, and in such a way as to communicate effectively enough to move an audience.

Second, if she wrote the essay herself, she utilized her writing talent - and believe me, that's another ability not everyone has.

Therefore, if she indeed wrote her material herself, and then read it aloud to an audience of millions, and both moved and entertained said audience, I think this young woman actually demonstrated not one but two talents.

Reading something isn't a talent.  Public speaking isn't reading.  You learn what you have written well enough to speak as if extemporaneously, glancing at your paper once in awhile, but not reading it.

I stopped watching the View years ago. Having said that, I went and watched the video of Joys statement.

Joy said the (contestant) nurse was just reading her emails and she said why is she (the contestant) wearing a stethoscope?

While the comment was rude "about the contestant just reading her emails." I don't see how it is an insult to nurses everywhere? And while I agree she shouldn't have said it, I don't see the big hoopla.

So my question is (and correct me if I am wrong); Is there more? Am I missing something else she may have said? Did I watch the wrong video and it got cut off?

PS) I have heard (via the media) many more rude statements that were made by Elisabeth and Whoopie over the years.

Her exact words which we found insulting were but "why was she wearing a DOCTOR's stethoscope"....that is a basic tool of a nurse and her implicit statement was only doctors are noble or competent enough to use the instrument.  In our super market, some person wears a stethoscope to take blood pressures....the tone was mocking and Condescending whether this young woman's segment is classified as talent is not the issue to offended nurses.  Apparently, sponsors agreed with the nurses United movement....I mean the stupid question they asked the winner about Tom Brady certainly didn't display brain power or insight.  She is quite pretty and lovely and that's what they should be judged on.

I totally agree, it was insulting and ignorant.

[ Edited ]

I am pretty liberal, and usually come to the defense of the 'offended" I Not having seen the show, and only read what was said.  Could a mountain be made out of a mole hill. ?  Maybe,.  Yes, it is a condesending remark.  But look at the source.  Joy is a comedienne, and prone to slip ups like everyone. Cr   ap slips out of their mouths all the time. Joy is a supporter of women and women's rights from way back, I can't help think she didn't mean it as it sounded. But I am not a nurse either/ The show has been slipping in the ratings badly for a while.  With Barbara Walters leaving, and a total change in the cast, one after the other.  The network can gain a lot by dropping show due to this incident.  I havent watched the View in years.  I hate talk shows now.  Yap yap yap, LOL!

Now, if a certain group is offended, then they should have their say.  Nurses have come a long way. IMO, they about run a hospital.  They are the back bone of the medical profession.  I think their knowledge is that of Doctor.  Where I live a good sugrical nurse can makes around 180,000, probably as much as some Doctors.  Nurses are closer to patients and the heartbeat of a medical group.  They do have a lot of clout, if they are offended...then they are offended and need to voice their feelings,  We all learn from this, and hopefully carry the lesson with us.  What we think is a casual remark, can hurt someone to the bone.

Re: Sponsors dropping The View

Of course I haven't read the contract that the advertisers have with The View, but I really do suspect that some of the advertisers are using Behar's remarks to bail on the show because of low ratings - that they otherwise couldn't get out of their contract but for some language in it about being able to pull out of the contract for something offensive happening on the show.  I'm thinking this incident is an excuse the advertisers are using to abandon a sinking ship and still not break their contract.
