Thanks everyone for your replies, whether they were for or against the cameras. I support them in certain areas, but not others. I think they were initially installed in areas where there was a need, but once they discovered how profitable they are, they over did it.

Many cities where they've had red light cameras have removed them. Albuquerque used to have a bunch but took them all out. They discovered fining people and collecting the fines were two different propositions. They had to hire a collection agency. Then the rumors started about corruption in giving contracts for the camera installation. These companies get a cut of the fines. It's all a big mess. We have the speed cameras too.
