I don't feel it's rude to ask if you can contribute to Thanksgiving dinner.  It's not a typical dinner with family.  Most families all contribute towards a large family dinner, as in potluck style, bringing side, desserts or wine.  It feels rude to me to not ask if you can help.  They obviously enjoy your family and want to include you and your husband when they have dinner with their sin and your daughter.   Most dinners from restaurants end up being around $50 per person.  If she says no to your contribution financially,  bring a bottle of wine or another hostess gift.  Just showing up with nothing is beyond inconsiderate.

Why not just offer to bring appetizers and dessert?

As the host, I would NEVER expect or accept money from my guests!

You are so very sweet and thoughtful to have these concerns.

You could give a gift card for a popular well loved grocery store like Fresh Market or you could take a beautiful plant since poinsettias will be in then.

A dessert is always a nice choice, but I prefer a "treat" for the hostess.
