Sparrows have been rebuilding a nest on my front porch for years and have made a mess. When they left last summer I had it. I tied a bandanna on my hair, put on a mask, got the hose ready, climbed the ladder and with my sledge hammer knock the nest down. I used the hose to clean everything up and with bleach and the hose washed down the bird droppings on the porch floor.
I then went to the store and found a gold star with bright glitter on it and hung it in front of where the nest had been.
My plans this spring was to repaint my iron bench, get new pillows, hang new outdoor art and get a new outdoor rug for the front of the door. My SIL is going to paint the front door and the front gate.
The past couple weeks I noticed the sparrows flying in and then out when they saw the star. 4 days ago I noticed two sparrows sitting on the star. 2 days ago I noticed they had started building a new nest, this time over the arch of the porch. Oh brother I thought. I or my guests would walk through the gate and be bombarded with bird cr ap. I got the hose out and knocked the nest down. The sparrows were twittering at me. Yesterday I was gone for the day and when I came home I noticed two sparrows sitting on the star staring at where the nest had been. When I went to bed they were still there, staring. When I got up to get the paper, they were still there staring. I just checked, and they are still there staring. It is kind of freaking me out. But I don't feel guilty. I think I don't. NO, I don't. Really, I don't.
