We have a reproduction of an old wall phone. That I still like - a lot. It is easy to throw out all the other phones we had. But I will have a hard time throwing this one out. It is the only phone still plugged in.

It probably won't be long before our landline stops working and it might be another 2 years before it starts working again.

@drizzellla,  my suggestion has nothing to do with your classic phone they unplug just like all others before and after them unless it is a VoIP connection

What ever happened to the Do Not Call Registry?? I thought it worked for a while but then...what a farce.

We had been without a working landline for more than 2 years. We had Verizon repairmen come out numerous times through the years since we lived here. They would get the landline working for awhile and then it would stop working.

The first thing the last repairman said to my husband was "if I have to come into your house, it will cost you $300". We know it wasn't a problem inside the house and my husband explained that the problem has always been the line to the house. The repairman got the landline working but it stopped working about 2 days later.

So we had given up having a landline.

Suddenly last week we started getting phone calls on our landline. Everyone we want to talk to have been using our cell phone numbers. So the only people now calling on our landline are people trying to make us take out a loan, buy something or wanting us to contribute money.

But the calls on the landline start at 8 AM. I even got one call at 7 AM. Aren't they supposed to wait until 9 AM? I live on the east coast. So it isn't time zone issues. Or am I mistaken about when they can call?

That law applies to companies of all sorts located in the United States. Calls generated from other countries don't have to follow U.S. laws.

Another thing .... oftentimes they call our numbers via the internet, not actual phone lines, and the same laws don't apply.

Turning the phone off at night and turning it on around 9 or 10am seems to be the best choice.

It worked very well when the calls were coming from somewhere in the United States.

Then they started call centers outside the U.S. and made calls via the internet.

The laws no longer applied.

OH WELL!   Here I was worried about getting phone calls at 8AM. I just noticed that my landline phone says "No Line". which means it is no longer working. The landline working, didn't last long.

Add your number to DONOTCALL. It won't stop scammers but can stop a lot of telemarketing calls.

You went 2 years without a landline so maybe it's time to disconnect it.

I gave up my landline in 2008 and never looked back.
