Space Bag problems

I bought the vacumn space bags from QVC a couple years ago.

Mostly stored them, now trying to pack bed clothes for moving and they won't close.

The sliding piece doesn't close them, I tried to shut them by hand....won't work.

Anyone else have a problem closing the bags? I don't have them over packed.
