Southern storm this week - was the National Guard deployed to help?

I've been watching the news reports about the storm in GA, AL, etc. and I felt so sorry for everyone who was trapped in their cars and other places. Just looking at all that traffic made me claustrophobic. I hope to never experience something like that.

For those who live in the area or who know more than I do, was the National Guard deployed to help people? Either help them move cars or give blankets, water, food, etc. I was wondering this, but didn't hear anything about it on the news reports I saw.

National Guard was used in Georgia. I think I heard the Guard was also used to help people in AL.

yes the news reported that the National Guard helped to get some people out of their cars and to safe places.....but I don't think they were deployed until yesterday from the report I heard.

Those people who didn't watch weather stations and heed the warnings deserved to be stuck in traffic. When will people start looking out for themselves instead of going about willy nilly, getting themselves into trouble, and then expect someone to come along and play mother to save them?

I am glad it is over for all involved.

Hopefully, the branches of government involved will get together and formulate a plan so this never happens again.

Do you read the news? did you follow the weather for that part of the country, do you know for a fact they got accurate info on the weather? or did you just assume they did? I am hard pressed to believe people would go about their day, take their most precious possessions, their kids to school, risk being stuck in traffic for hrs if they were going about their day willy nilly, ignoring a huge storm coming in, just doesn't ring true to me.

And people were whining about the weather forecasters over hyping the weather.
