The 'sky is using bowling balls' comes from 'Rip Van Winkle' (an early 19th century American short story by Washington Irving). So cool to hear someone else remember that metaphor, Ribbons.

I read 'Rip Van Winkle' in middle school and had thought it was forgotten.

My mom always told me when I was little that "the angels are bowling", and that "the lightning is when God gets a strike". 8)

Still think that way 45+ years later, LOL.

Washington Irving lived part of his life in the Hudson Valley, of NY just North of NYC, the town of Irivington is named after him and in Sleep Hollow every year they do readings of his works around Halloween

Hi former oxox, I have been to his house, which is a perfect Hudson Valley home. It isn't in Tarrytown?

I took my niece there maybe 10 years ago, so it's been a while. My niece Alice is a huge fan of 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' so we went on a road trip there, and also visited the Roosevelt's home near Poughkeepsie. What a beautiful part of the world! Is it Thomas Church who is the great Hudson Valley painter, too? Love his work but he was looking at perfection.

Sunnyside, 89 West Sunnyside Lane, Tarrytown, we went there on year at Christmas time, it was beautiful. around Halloween there are a lot of activities in the area including a reading of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at the Old Dutch Church
