@chrystaltree wrote:There are songs I like but I can honestly say no song or little tune could help me deal with a difficult personal situation.
@Chrystaltree2, the same goes for me too.

Hckynutjohn reminded me of Elvis Gospel music. I like Elvis' Gospel music also and listen to it in the car frequently.
Let Their Be Peace brought on tears for a long time after my father in law passed. That was sung at his funeral. He so depicted the way he lived his life - a peaceful man.

"Precious Lord, Take My Hand"
At her request I sang this as a solo at my mother-in-law's funeral service. She had planned her service down to the letter -- ministers, hymns, scripture, music, etc. Mother was a beloved woman who lived her life in faith and trust in God on a daily basis. She is sorely missed.
Here are the lyrics:
"Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand
Precious Lord
Lead me home.
When my way grows drear
Precious Lord, linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand, Lest I fall
Take my hand
Precious Lord
Lead me home.
When the darkness appears
And the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet, Hold my hand
Take my hand
Precious Lord
Lead me home."

Those words are why I have always loved listening to that song. Elvis singing it in a live concert. Backed up by The Stamps Quartet featuring J.D. Sumner's very subterranean low voice, and The Sweet Inspirations featuring Kathy Westmoreland's beautiful high voice. Still gives me chills when I watch and listen to it on Laserdisc or Bluray DVD in several live concerts.
WOW!

The song that was on the charts when my father died was I'll Remember You by Sara McLachlan. There was a lyric in that song that particularly resonated with me because it sounded like what my dad would say: "Don't let your life pass you by. Weep not for the memory." I felt that he was talking to me through that song.

On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand
Two old songs I learned at church when I was growing upand they always run through my mind when things are hard. They have been sung by me maybe more times with tears than not. I remember the words to many of those songs.
Amazing Grace was played on the flute at my dad's memorial. My family is part Scottish, and the bagpipe version of the song is particularly moving.
